Europe 2000, Day 6 - Chateau Chenonceau

Day 6 - May 15, 2000. The drive across France takes us to the Chateau Chenonceau. Built by Henry 2nd for his mistress. Beautiful and elaborate, house extends over river, grounds contain lovely formal gardens.

Stables

Day 6 - May 15, Lunch in Blois followed by a wonderful Peach Melba!

Next stop is Chateau Chambord - 500 feet long, over 400 rooms. The cost of building these enormous houses led to the French revolution. Not much time to go inside so I rested my feet.

We spend a bit more time visiting the great cathedral in Chartres.

One of the most interesting features of the Caathedral is the Labrynth worked into the floor of the nave. It is walked as an aid to devotion and meditation. Facimilies of the Chartres Labrynth appear in many places and in many forms. The floor was covered with chairs when I was there so this photograph is borrowed from Wikapedia.
