Day 5, May 14, 2000 - Mont St-Michel, an ancient Church and Monastory built on a hill just off the coast. When the tide is in the hill is an island, when the tide is out, the hill is connected to the mainland by a marsh. It was our good fortune to visit on a holiday when people from the neighboring districts dressed up in native costume and paraded up the narrow streets. The monastary is at the top of a long climb past many shops and resturants. It was a wonderful day.
Statue of St Michael, of course.
After our hike up the mountain and back down, we drove 4 hours to Tours for dinner and bed. Tomorrow another long drive ending in Paris.
Train station in Tours.
Dinner outdoors.
